Marc Surer präsentiert in der Motorshow TCS den neuen Mini Cooper S. Extérieur Beim Ur-Mini aus dem Jahre 1959 hat das Design über 40 Jahre gehalten. BMW als neuer "Herausgeber" ist da etwas zügiger und bringt bereits nach sechs Jahren eine Neuauflage. Äusserlich ist das Neue am Mini Cooper S R56 aber kaum zu erkennen. Denn auch für BMW ist eben gerade das minitypische Design der Schlüssel zum Erfolg. Dazu gehören beispielsweise die Rundscheinwerfer oder die fast schon antiken Türgriffe. Am auffälligsten beim neuen Mini ist die Haube, die nun über einen Schlitz für den Ladeluftkühler verfügt. Passend dazu wurde auch die eigens entworfene Frontschürze mit einem schwarzen Wabengrill versehen, der zusätzlich Luft in den Motorraum lässt. Die etwas angehobene Motorhaube verbessert den Fussgängerschutz. Die Frontpartie ist um sechs Zentimeter verlängert, womit sich die Knautschzone vergrössern liess. Funktionslos sind hingegen die Lüftungsgitter in der Heckschürze, die aber den mittig angeordneten Doppelauspuff effektvoll einrahmen. Intérieur Mehr Neues gibt es im Innern. Und hier wird einem auch sofort klar, dass es sich beim Mini Cooper weiterhin um ein Lifestyle-Fahrzeug handelt. Die Sitze sind völlig neu, die Türtafel wurde neu gestaltet, ebenfalls das Cockpit. Der zentrale Tacho war ja schon beim Vorgänger riesengross. Nun ist er noch grösser geworden. Der Grund ist aber nicht die immer grössere Anzahl Radarkästen auf unseren Strassen. Being a third larger than the original, this thoroughly modern Mini could hardly be a slavish copy of that Issigonis-designed vehicle in which everyone from rock stars to the Royal Family (all behind darkened windows) darted about London in the swinging '60s of the century past. Nonetheless, designer Frank Stephenson caught the sassy, can-do attitude of the first Mini and made the new one a striking statement in style when it was introduced in 2002 as well as an e-ticket carnival ride. Not to mention a serious vehicle that can tote more than seems likely, can dry out wet pavement with its excellent handling and can stimulate more smiles than a precocious three-year-old at a grown-up party.
