I searched and found this thread

but anyone have *experience* not passing smog or the visual with a Alta intake and/or cat back exhaust? I bought the car recently and am wondering if I should change back to the OEM intake box, or just go in for a test and see what happens.

BTW, the calif DMV site say " 4 model years old or less, does not need smog test..". This is an '04, and the lady at DMV counts: "'04, '05, '06, '07, 08 - you are 5 year old!". So...anything pre'05 will need smog on transfer.
