The BRP Tour - June 19-22, 2008

Saturday 31 May 2008 - ore 23:36 | Tag:

I’ve been getting ready for this for the last 8 months and it’s almost time.

Last year I headed up a Tar Heel MINI Motoring Club outing to the tallest point in NC, Mt. Mitchell. While there, I asked our members if anyone would be interested in traversing the entire Blue Ridge Parkway.

We we set a date and it’s almost time. I truly can not wait to get driving!

We head up to Waynesboro, Va. and spend the night and start the journey the next day. We complete over 265 miles on day one, 230 miles on day two and finish the last bit early on Sunday morning before having a nice lunch in Cherokee, NC. I planned the days so that we have time to stop and smell the roses so to speak during our journey.

We have approximately 33 individuals tagging along during the 3 days. It’s open to everyone, not just our members. Some of the people coming are from New Jersey, Maryland and most from North Carolina. It should be a great trip!

More to come…

mpg on a mini cooper

What is the mpg on a mini cooper highway and city? My dad is looking for a new car and is looking for one that has a good mpg because of the gas prices. I am the one who research things.

Adding leather seats?

Saturday 31 May 2008 - ore 21:06 | Tag:
Our 04 MCS was too far along by the time I realized I hadn't ticked the leather option box and it arrived with the space gray/black cloth seats. Which of course have their advantages and have held up quite impressively. However, we're keeping this car long term and let's face it, these cars deserve leather upholstery.

Any recommendations on how best to go about this? I'm sure the local dealer will charge an astronomical figure - and an upholstery place may or may not be up to my expectations. Perhaps a wrecked Mini as a donor, which could be difficult to locate. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

FS: M7 DFIC v1 w/ Polished Finish

Saturday 31 May 2008 - ore 21:02 | Tag:
Here's the set up:

- M7 DFIC with bright Polished Finish
- Polished Finish Diverter
- Black Silicone IC Boots
- M7 DFIC Hood Scoop painted BRG
- M7 AeroGel Heat Rejecting Pad (<500 miles on it)

The DFIC and Diverter have some scratches from the previous owner's home-made bug guard  - they are visable but superficial and do not affect the function of the DFIC.

The scoop looks good and is spot on OEM BRG but the finish is not flawless if you're performing a close inspection of it.

$560 shipped anywhere in the CONUS from St. Louis, MO.

The time has come to consider a few vehicle options. I am trying to decide whether or not to sell the mini as I am finding myself in need of 4 doors more frequently now. This thread is meant to be a feeler (the car is for sale at a fair price) I would like some comments on the pricing of the car. I know in this current environment smaller cars are being pursued a bit more than suv?s etc. But even still, using online pricing is sometimes questionable. Dealers appear to be bumping prices of anything perceived to have decent gas mileage and prices are falling so fast on suv?s/v-8?s its hard to get a stable read. So if you can offer any thoughts either here or in a pm I would appreciate it.

The car is available in the suburbs north of Chicago.

Finish is fantastic. I usually clay, klasse aio, and klasse sg twice a year.
There are a few small scuffs that I have not had buffed out on the passenger door. I think a child tripped into the door over last summer. The scuffs are hard to photograph as the light has to be just right to capture them. I can try to get some photos under different lighting to see if I can get it to show Monday.
I have auto crossed the car approx 3-4 times. No track racing.
I will grab some more current pictures Monday and have them available For anyone interested.

I get values online in the 20,500-23,500 range for private party. The packages/options for the Minis do not seem to be consistently treated by some of the sources. I would have thought the 23 range was too high and the 20,500 a bit low. The remainder of the warranty and service schedule is still valid. The Original in service date was April 10, 2006. This certainly seems to be one of the lower mileage loaded 06?s I have seen with lsd and a later in service date.
I appreciate any Comments, suggestions, feedback.
